The “Teno” Nativity Scene is the result of 30 years of passion, dedication, creativity, and craftsmanship. It has been expertly crafted by Gaudenzio Straulino, also known as “Teno.”

The “Teno” Nativity Scene is an extraordinary example of local craftsmanship. All the figurines (over 100!) have been intricately hand-carved from wood, serving as small witnesses to the customs and traditions of Sutrio and the Carnia region.

In addition to depicting the nativity, the “Teno” Nativity Scene reconstructs the life of the village of Sutrio: the traditional festivals, professions, and daily activities that marked the lives of our grandparents. The precision and wealth of detail make the “Teno” Nativity Scene more than just a simple nativity scene—it is a true miniature ethnographic museum.

The figurines are mechanized, representing the cycle of day and night accompanied by the sounds of the village: bells, the crowing of roosters, and the music of the band. All of this makes the “Teno” Nativity Scene an activity suitable even for children, who become captivated by the animated scene. Today, all the mechanisms have been restored by volunteers from Sutrio. Originally, even these mechanisms were created by Teno Straulino using everyday objects, from clothes hangers to bicycle wheels.
