Where is Sutrio located? Where is Sutrio located? Many people ask us this question: where is this small mountain village, with just over 1000 inhabitants but many “gems” – as we call them – to discover?

We are in Carnia, a historical-geographical region in the northernmost part of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the easternmost region of Italy. And Sutrio is located in the heart of Carnia, in a strategic position easily accessible by any means of transportation, from cars and motorcycles to campers.

Sutrio is at the foot of Zoncolan, the mountain that has become famous as the toughest climb in the Giro d’Italia and in all of Europe. It’s the perfect destination throughout the year:from spring to autumn for cyclists, hiking enthusiasts, and those who want to experience new perspectives from the saddle of a horse; in winter, it becomes one of the most important ski resorts in the region(did you know that our guests get a discount on ski passes?).).

Returning to the valley, Sutrio is only 6 kilometers away from the Terme di Arta. Here, you can relax in the wellness area with pools, hydrotherapy, and sauna, all at a reduced price: we have an agreement with the Terme, and our guests receive a discount on admission.

The nearest town is Tolmezzo, 12 kilometers away. If you want to delve deeper into the daily life, traditions, customs, and beliefs of the area, the Carnic Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions “Michele Gortani” is perfect for you. Thirty rooms spread over three floors and over 4,000 objects make the collection one of the most important in the European ethnographic heritage.
