Along the streets of Sutrio, you will come across numerous carved statues. These were created by artisans and sculptors during the “Magia Del Legno”, edition after edition.
These statues serve as silent witnesses of the territory and history of Sutrio. There’s the lady with the “zei”, the traditional backpack used to carry hay, firewood, dried leaves, manure, and even the bride’s dowry. There are fantastical characters too, like the “sbilf” and the “orcul,” legendary inhabitants of the woods; and typical professions such as the carpenter, blacksmith, and lumberjack. There are also statues representing figures who were once considered true institutions in the village, like the schoolteacher or the parish priest.

These statues come to life with Sutrio’s Treasure Hunt, which tells the story of the village and the Carnia region. It’s a perfect activity for children, families, and curious tourists who encounter these “figures” throughout the village.

Each statue tells a brief story, totaling 18 in all. The text of each story hides a clue that, together with the others, will reveal the location of the special treasure.

Have fun, discover something new about this territory, and at the same time, explore Sutrio, its streets, courtyards, and typical houses, and of course, uncover the treasure. So, why wait? The treasure hunt can be done even when it rains – just bring an umbrella and a lot of curiosity.
