Magia del Legno 2025: Sutrio becomes an open-air workshop

On Sunday, September 7, 2025, the event that celebrates the artisan tradition of our village returns.

For an entire day, the streets, courtyards, and arcades of Sutrio will turn into a vast open-air workshop, where master artisans and sculptors from Friuli Venezia Giulia, from across Italy, and from abroad will showcase their craft live, revealing both ancient and modern techniques: sculpture, woodturning, carving, and much more.

Between art, tradition, and flavors

Along the route you’ll find artisan workshops open to visitors, the charming “Ort di Sior Matie” with the “Marangons” of Sutrio, the spectacular live chainsaw carving demonstrations by the Eddj Team, and a lively craft market full of curiosities.
Local associations will also delight you with food stalls serving both sweet and savory traditional dishes, creative activities for children, live music, and the photography exhibition of the “Lêntamente” project.

The crèches of Sutrio: treasures to admire

Magia del Legno is also a chance to discover two works that embody the soul of our village:

• The “Presepio di Teno”, a miniature masterpiece created over 30 years by master craftsman Gaudenzio “Teno” Straulino, faithfully recreating Sutrio and everyday life of the past.
• The Vatican Crib, displayed in St. Peter’s Square during Christmas 2022 and now preserved in the heart of the village: a monumental work designed with sustainability in mind, beautifully illuminated at night with a play of lights.

An art that lives all year round

While strolling through Sutrio, you can also admire the monumental wooden sculptures created during past editions of Magia del Legno, now part of the “Sutrio Paese Presepe” open-air museum.
This year, in the days leading up to the event, three sculptors from Argentina will work live to enrich the village with new creations inspired by the figures of the Presepio di Teno.
