Sutrio is also known as “Il pais dai marangons,” which means “the village of carpenters.” On the first Sunday of September each year, the village transforms into a large open-air workshop where artisans showcase their skills.
It’s a day to step back in time and explore the traditions and crafts of our grandparents: carving, inlay work, lathe turning, and sculpture. Additionally, embroidery, an ancient craft passed down from mother to daughter, is also featured.
Since 1990, La Magia del Legno has brought life to the streets and courtyards of Sutrio. For over 30 years, the entire community and various associations have worked together to share and teach the roots of this region, deeply connected to wood—a material abundant in the forests surrounding the village.
